I have been following Persona 4 since it first arrived in 2008, and every new version or spin-off pulls me back to the sleepy, rain-soaked streets of Inaba. When Atlus officially announced Persona 4 Revival during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, I felt that familiar rush of excitement. Now, as pre-orders open for PS5 and PC in 2026, one detail has cooled my enthusiasm enough to make me hesitate: the Steam page confirms Denuvo.

That little word “Denuvo” carries enormous baggage in the PC gaming community. I have seen countless threads accusing the DRM of being invasive, monitoring too much of a system, and causing performance issues. Not every Denuvo release runs badly, but the fear is real. I remember playing Persona 3 Reload and loving the game while still feeling a slight annoyance that Sega had included the same controversial protection. With Persona 4 Revival following that path, it is not surprising, but it still stings.

Still, I cannot pretend I am not excited. Persona 4 Revival will retell the story that made me fall for the series: a high school protagonist moves to rural Inaba just as a string of murders disturbs the town. With a group of friends, he discovers a strange world inside the television, a place where distorted versions of people’s souls reveal their secrets. The original Persona 4 was already special, and Persona 4 Golden refined it further. It is frequently discussed as one of Sega’s best-published games, and it holds an average critic score of 88 on OpenCritic. For me, that reputation is deserved, and I want Revival to succeed.

The Steam page also revealed an impressive language lineup. This is a strong sign for accessibility, especially for fans who previously had to rely on fan translations or limited regional support. Persona 4 Revival will feature 15 supported languages:

  • English 🇬🇧

  • French 🇫🇷

  • Italian 🇮🇹

  • German 🇩🇪

  • Spanish — Spain and Latin America 🇪🇸🌎

  • Japanese 🇯🇵

  • Korean 🇰🇷

  • Polish 🇵🇱

  • Portuguese — Brazil 🇧🇷

  • Russian 🇷🇺

  • Chinese — traditional and simplified 🇨🇳

  • Thai 🇹🇭

  • Turkish 🇹🇷

That list covers a huge portion of the global fan base. Atlus and Sega seem serious about making this remake a true worldwide launch, even if Denuvo remains a sore point.

Release timing is another reason my anticipation has felt unusually drawn out. Atlus has not given us a precise date, and as I write this in 2026, the wait is still ongoing. Sega’s financial documents indicated that Persona 4 Revival would not arrive before April 2026. The current expectation places it somewhere in the fiscal year running from April 2026 to March 2027. That is a broad window. I keep hoping for a surprise drop, but the absence of a fixed date makes planning a playthrough difficult. I also know that delays can help polish a game, so I try to remain patient.

The possible bright side is that Persona 4 Revival may follow the commercial success of Persona 3 Reload. That remake became Atlus’ fastest-selling game after moving more than one million units in its first week. It was a major hit and proved that modern Persona remakes can thrive when handled with care. If Persona 4 Revival comes close to that performance, it may fuel more remakes and spin-offs. I only wish the PC version did not carry the Denuvo cloud over it, because a clean technical experience would make the Midnight Channel even more inviting.

For now, I remain torn. Part of me wants to pre-order immediately and spend hours rediscovering every social link and dungeon. Another part of me wants to wait, see launch-day performance reports, and decide whether Denuvo actually causes problems. I have been burned before by DRM-related stutters, and Persona 4 deserves better than a rocky PC launch. Atlus has created something beloved, and I hope the final product honors that legacy.

In the end, Persona 4 Revival is still one of my most anticipated games. The music, the characters, the foggy mystery of Inaba, and the surreal glow of the TV world all still pull at me. But Denuvo has added an unwelcome variable. As a fan, I will keep my eye on Atlus announcements and hope that performance and preservation concerns are taken seriously. If the remake runs as beautifully as its story deserves, I will gladly return to the Midnight Channel. Until then, I am cautiously waiting by the television. 📺
